The Ed Holshue Cup was created in 2002 to honor Coach Ed Holshue, who dedicated 32 years to coaching high school football -- including a combined 28 years with Mt. Hebron and Centennial high schools. His contributions included 16 years on the Mt. Hebron's coaching staff, with 9 years as the head coach; 4 years coaching at McDonogh; and 12 years leading the Centennial Eagles football program. As a coach, Holshue held his players to a high standard of performance in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. Several of his former players have gone on to pursue coaching careers in Howard County, often starting out on one of Coach's staffs. Coach received numerous awards and public recognition during his tenure.
The Holshue Cup was created to honor Coach Holshue's tremendous achievements and contributions to both Mt. Hebron and Centennial. Each fall since 2002, the Centennial and Mt. Hebron varsity football teams square off to determine the winner of the coveted cup. The 9th annual Ed Holshue Cup game took place October 16 at Centennial High School.
